I asked a simple question.
“How do I find a way to break writer’s block?”
One of my followers said it bluntly: “Just write!”
“Just write”, you say.
So you think it is easy to just put a bunch of words together, hope to hell it looks grammatically sound and that what I am saying makes sense. If it is such an easy endeavor, then I’d have done it weeks ago. I mean who do readers think I am, a writer? “Just write!” Damnit, I’ll just show you how hard it is to “just write” when I’ve got writer’s block. I’ll prove to you it is not as simple a thing to do as you say.
I don’t think people who read what I write understand that a writer like me has a lot of important things to do. For example, I am making sure every game on my phone is played so I can keep up with my daily totals hoping to hit the jackpot and get extra power-ups. I downloaded this Football/Soccer game from Google Play where I’m responsible for everything from picking players, to the coaches well being, to the health of the club, etc. These things can’t manage themselves and they need someone like me to make sure all the parameters are met.
I also have to find the most compelling words to make my point come across the best way possible. Who wants to rewrite five different times to get words right and make it all come together? I mean the idea of rewrites just makes me want to jump out of a window from my house and hope the bushes break my fall. A person who works at a restaurant making the same dish day after day doesn’t need to redo their meal. They get the meal right the first time and do it with no auto-correct. If they could do it, then why couldn’t I just do it as well when I write? If I can’t get it right maybe it is best not to try at all so I don’t get my work trashed.
Also, I need to make sure that I am passionate about what I am writing. I just can’t lay down a bunch of words and THEN the passion comes up and I am writing. You don’t stoke a fire and make it burn, you bring a hot blazing flame and cook on the keyboards.
Writing just on the spur with no idea what subject or topic you’re about to write on is confusing to me. I mostly write about sexuality and maybe other topics as the spirit leads me. What if I find myself writing about what I ate last or what city I drove to or my latest mishap in life?
There are so many reasons why I can’t “just write”:
* Not the right setting
* Not the right time
* Need a good reason to get my juices flowing
Just writing with no direction, no ideas and no absolute understanding of how this will all look in the end seems so weird and not my way of doing things. Just doing this is not conducive in a lot…of…ways.
Hold up.
Let me take a look above…oh.
Oh crap!
Okay, fine… you’re right.
Your “just write” idea works.
Damnit! Guess I better start back again!
